DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND IMAGING - Week 5

WEEK 5 ( 14 / 05 / 2020 )

Lectures :

- Exposure : Shutter speed, Aperture and ISO.
is the act of exposing the image sensor to light. By adjusting the amount of light, you can make a photograph of a bright sunlit scene look dark, or a shot of a dark interior look bright.

- Shutter speed is a measurement of the time the shutter is open, shown in seconds or fractions of a second: 1 s, 1/2 s, 1/4 s … 1/250 s, 1/ 500 s, etc. The shorter the time the image sensor is exposed to light, the darker the resulting photograph.

- Aperture (expressed as an f-number) controls the brightness of the image that passes through the lens and falls on the image sensor. The higher the f-number, the darker the image projected on the image sensor.

- ISO is a camera setting that increases or lowers the amount of light in a photograph. It’s always best to take advantage of all the natural light you can get your lens on, but sometimes darker conditions call for a higher ISO.

Practical :

Exercise 5
- Class Practice :

Displacement map hybrid animal ( part 1 )

Healing tool set

Creating hybrid animal with displacement map ( part 2 ).
Select a photo of animal online, as well as a photo of fur/skin from different animal. Apply the new coat to the chosen animal.
Animal photo:
1. Apply black & white filter,
2. Apply Gaussian blur,
3. Save as displacement map PSD file,
4. Reopen the jpeg/ png photo (NOT the PSD file).

Fur/skin photo
5. Move it to the animal photo,
6. Free transform to resize & rotate,
7. Convert to smart object, 8. Apply displacement map,
9. Choose blending mode
10. Masking

I chose a dog and a zebra skin from online for the exercise.

skin ; zebra

After matching those photo, I chose the outcome that shows out the best combination.
