Project 2
Week 7 :
The Design School would like our video module students to participate in the Adobe Education Creative Jam competition.
The competition is a short film competition (2 minutes). We can participate in a team of 5 to display their talent of short filmmaking. The idea is to bring the finest creative minds on floor with the motto 'Creativity for all'.
The competition will serve as our final project. Participating in the competition, we don’t have to do the stop motion final project anymore.
I suggested my friend to participate the competition. Therefore, our group members are:
1. Lee Sean (Director)
2. Rachel Li Hoi Yan (Main Actor)
3. Jez Lew Yan Shan ( Actor + Behind The Scene )
4. Avery Ong Xuan Ting ( Actor + Helper )
5. Chee Jia Yang ( Editor )
Discussion
We started to choose our theme and discuss our story idea in Miro.

We wanted to go with a creative and fun themes. After discussing, we choose to go with Theme 2: Dreams unmasked. We choose this theme because it wasn't too limitation and we can come out with more unrealistic and creative story because it was just a dream.
After choosing the theme, we started to discuss our story and shooting date. The feeling we want for our video is either funny or depressing type.

Everyone came out with different idea and story. I like everyone's story but we only can choose one or combine it into 2 minutes. We tried to combine everyone's idea together but it wasn't work. My idea of the story is:

After having discussion with Mr. Martin in Zoom, we choose to go with Rachel's idea which is:

Week 8 :
We didn't have much time to shoot the video because it's due on next week. Meanwhile, we need to start shooting this weekend and start to edit before the deadline. It was quite rushing so they decided to stay at my place overnight to finish this project by this week.
Schedule planned by Mr. Martin :
7, 8. OCT: Brainstorming, ideation
9, 10, 13 OCT: Video shooting, select Adobe’s stock footage(optional) for editing.
12, 13, 14 OCT: Editing (Adobe Rush), Documenting interesting events/moment from ideation to finishing (Adobe Spark).
15 OCT: Review and submit (Adobe Spark).
16 OCT: Just in case….you know…..
11/10/2020 12:00pm
One day before the shooting day, we had been informed that we are not participating in Adobe Competition anymore due to an email from Adobe on Friday which insisted us to produce an app using Adobe XD. However, app design doesn’t fit our module, VSP60104 Video & Sound Production learning objective, and the given deadline is impossible to stick to.
However, the 2 minutes video is still part of our assignment (30%), we carry on to do the video shooting in the following week (week 8), and editing in week 9, submit in week 10.
Having said so, we are now not limited to using Adobe Rush for editing, we can use Premiere Pro which is more powerful and professional. On top of that, we are not using Adobe Spark as well. Every student just needs to document the process in their own blog (Please take photos during the shoot, share the idea development notes and storyboard).
Although we are quite sad for not participating the competition, but our plan were still moving on. We met at campus today although the Covid-19 was getting worse. Glad that Mr. Martin was free to help us during the shooting.
Behind The Scenes :
Me and Jez were the main actor's ( Rachel ) friends. We decided to shot the first scene beside the lakeside like we are playing happily (happy scene).

Director (Lee Sean) was trying to adjust the angle of the camera.

We still not familiar with the equipment yet, so the first scene we took a lot of time to shot.
fig. 1.7 ; everyone was trying to find a perfect angle
For the second scene, we decided to shot outside the library. Mr. Martin taught us how to shot and adjust the lightning so that the scene won't expose.

After shooting all the scene in campus, we have a small discussion in lab and took a rest. Mr. Martin allowed us to take all the equipment back to D' Latour for other shooting scenes. Besides that, he also teach us how to use the equipment and explain its function.

After finished shooting all the scene, we started to edit and combine all the video. We imported all the videos into Editor's (Jia Yang) computer. We faced many issues while combining all the videos because some of the scene's angle wasn't the same. We tried to adjust them as same as possible to fix the inconsistent.

fig. 1.11 ; editing video
We don't have enough time to finish editing the video therefore we edit the video online. I went back to my hometown because of the lock down at Selangor, so I couldn't join my groupmates to continue editing the video. Mr. Martin mentioned that the scene at D' Latour wasn't work because it was too dark, so they planned to reshot the scene another day at main character's (Rachel) house.
After this few weeks, finally everyone was happy with the final outcome.

It was very fun during this project. I had learned many things through this shooting and editing progress. It wasn't as easy as I thought before we start shooting. All the angle, brainstorming, storyboard are very important. We had to plan well before start to do everything. Other than that, edit is a very important part too. We really took a lot of time for editing the color correction, sound effect, background music and position. Thank you Mr. Martin for the time to help us so much.
