INSTRUCTION
Project 1B ( Week 6 )
For this project we are tasked to design a poster and two other collateral items using the key artwork developed in the task before this. The graphic output must result from in-depth exploration and must communicate both visually and textually the desired message and mood.
Poster
I designed two artwork in Photoshop. Each artwork have black and white version. Below are my outcome.fig.1.0 ; first outcome (black and white)
fig.1.1 ; first outcome (colour)
fig.1.2 ; second outcome (black and white)
fig.1.3 ; second outcome (colour)
Mr. Vinod suggested me to resize my key artwork bigger and place the information on the key artwork. I tried to redesign it in Photoshop as the suggestion given. After editing many time, I was quite excited with my outcome.

Week 8 in the academic calendar is the Independence Learning Week (ILW). Mr. Vinod want us to post our progression on Facebook. Therefore, I started to work on my animated invite first.
First, I resize my poster to the required size (1000x1000px) and save each timeline as JPEG.
After that, I edit the animation in Photoshop and save it as GIF.

Collateral
After done designing the animated invite. I started to edit collateral items. The items I chose for collateral are hat, hoodie and bag. I downloaded the plain items images from online and edited my key artwork by using Photoshop.

fig. 1.12 ; hat
fig. 1.13 ; hoodie (1)
fig. 1.14 ; hoodie (2)
After the feedback given by Mr. Vinod, I download a different elements again to redesign the collateral. Below are my final outcome:

fig. 1.17 ; hat
fig. 1.18 ; shirt

FEEDBACK
Week 6 :
Specific feedback:
- Text point size too big.
- Not really enhancing the key artwork.
General feedback:
- I need to redesign again my poster.
Week 7 :
Week 7 :
Specific feedback:
- No feedback given due to independent learning week.
General feedback:
- Poster layouts should be aligned and in line with the style of the key artwork
- Key artwork is slapped on all the collateral without much thought or imagination. The key art has not been imaginatively
- Animation does not reflect the mood/style/or layout. It seems to be imposed onto the art and has no bearing or relationship to it.
- Animated invite size is 1000 x1000 px.
Week 8 :
Specific feedback:
- Change the shirt to the normal shirt.
- Use some design principle to design.
- The hat can come out with a batch, make it more interesting.
- Try to break the information into separate layout to make it more obvious.
General feedback:
- Be more imaginative to the collateral.
- Good colour-scheme.
REFLECTIONS
Week 6 :
Experience: Maybe this would be our last physical class in this semester because Covid-19 is getting serious this few days. I prefer physical class because it was easier for me to concentrate.
Observations: Poster looks good doesn't mean it was a good poster. The most important things while designing a poster is that it must be relevant to the mood of the title.
Findings: Our poster design need to reflect the mode of key artwork, not to make it more complicated. I should think the easiest way to present the style.
FURTHER READINGWeek 7 :
Experience: Mr. Vinod announced that this week class will be held online due to the Covid-19 is getting worse day by day. I don't like online class because it was difficult for me to stay concentration during the class.
Observations: I'm very happy with my poster design. However, I think the information was aligned properly and obvious enough for audience to see.
Findings: I found that it was not as difficult as everyone think to design a good poster that Mr. Vinod agreed. Simple, relevant to the style, check the alignment and font-size, good color-scheme were what Mr. Vinod always emphasize.
Week 8 :
Experience: Although is independent learning week but we still have to continue working on the project. Therefore, I continue to design my animated invite and collateral.
Observations: Mr. Vinod posted many general feedback in Facebook. It means that our design still have many issues need to work on.
Findings: I have posted my work in the post but I didn't get any feedback from Mr. Vinod. Meanwhile, I have to wait until next week to get all the feedback and rushed to edit everything perfect because next week is the deadline for this project.
The Elements of Typographic Style ( by Robert Bringhurst )
The Elements of Typographic Style has received universal acclaim and, yes, it is as good as everyone says it is. It will instill in you a passion for typography. 10/12 Minion on laid paper that is more transparent than it should be was not a great choice. This is the first book in a long while to make me go hunting for reading glasses. The transparency of the paper, the watermark lines, and the general layout combine to create strange variations in contrast that make reading difficult.
Bringhurst says (on page 195) that "The type cannot be chosen without coming to some decision about the kind of paper it will be printed on, and cannot look right in the end if that decision is later betrayed." His example is about proportions, but transparency and style ask similar questions. That said, it’s not very visual, so if you are someone who needs full-color examples, then you might prefer some of the other selections below. The writing can also be a bit flowery and poetic at times (which makes sense considering Bringhurst is better known as a poet than a typographer), which may turn some people off.
There is a long chapter about page layout that focuses on book and magazine design, with detailed information about picas and columns and such. If you design for screens, you may not find that section very applicable. But other than that chapter, most of the content is timeless and could apply to any typographic medium.
