WEEK 9

Animatic ( 27/05/2021 )

We are required to produce an 20 seconds animatic of our original short animation story with sound as in voice-over, sound effects and music to tell a compelling story based on our Project 1 and 2. Mr. Martin want us to start a simple sketch of our animatic. Every shot multiple layers: One layer per character, Background one layer, Foreground one layer. Reason being multiple layers are easier to animate. We need to chose four to five shot from our story. Below are my first draft :

Lecturer's Feedback :

Try to choose scenes that can apply more 12 principles of animation. Mr. Martin suggested me to change the first opening title scene to the first birthday scene and delete the skipping to the classroom scene (second shot). Title is optional.

WEEK 10

Animatic ( 02/06/2021 )

According to what Mr. Martin had suggested, I changed those scene and move the title to the last scene. Below is the final draft :

Lecturer's Feedback :

The putting bear into the box scene change it to the imaginative scene. Other than that is fine, I can start to work on the final short animation.

WEEK 11

Animated Short ( 09/06/2021 )

I started to draw the background for each scenes first.

Lecturer's Feedback :

Check the background's art style. The last scene change to a montage from a 5 years old girl grow up to an adult. The lighting and shadow should be stronger contrast.

WEEK 12

Animated Short ( 16/06/2021 )

I started to work on the second, third and fifth scenes. I used many different apps for each scenes. This causes my computer become very lag sometimes. I used Photoshop for the drawing, then I import them to either Animate or After Effects for the animate. After then, I export them out and import each finished scene to After Effects to combine them together.

Lecturer's Feedback :

- Playground scene: looks weird, maybe I should add more keyframe. Besides that, check the horizontal line (flatten a bit) of the background.
- Classroom scene: add some blur green background at the window.
- Bedroom scene: the character should maintain the same position, I should change her visual like hairstyle, size. Other than this, maybe add some assets in the bedroom to show the different. Check the view outside the window.

WEEK 13

Animated Short ( 23/06/2021 )

I had changed all the issues that Mr. Martin had mentioned. After this, I started to work on the first scene and forth scene which I think it is more difficult than the three scenes I had done last week. Finally, I combine all the scene in After Effects after I had finished all the scenes.

Lecturer's Feedback :

Overall was good, only the playground scene still need to improve a little bit. Find more references and observe how kids play slide on YouTube.

WEEK 14

Animated Short ( 30/06/2021 )

I added more keyframe for the playground scene. I thinks it looks much more better now and I also added a shot that the character climbs up the stairs then slides down from the top. Aside from that, I added the sound effects and background music for the video. It is quite difficult to find a song that can suit a 20 seconds video which included positive and negative mood. Finally, below is my final outcome :
