REFLECTION
Experiences: Before this module start, I had a very limited understanding of typography only. I tried to understand this subject, do some research , watch the lectures. Like Mr. Vinod always said, it is very difficult to concentrate for 6 hours, so we should jot down important notes. I felt difficult every times when we start a new project, we need to come out with a new idea and it has to be neatly and math the require condition. It was very stressful sometimes because most of the classmates come out with very nice work but mine was always so simple and lack of creativity. As I always said, I am lacking of confidence about my skills and creativity. But after these 14 weeks, made me slowly accept the fact that there are always better designs and composition. When you are liking other people's designs, you never know there might be other people thinking the same thing while looking at your piece. So, we shouldn't be afraid of expressing our ideas, and listening to how others think about our works will make difference.
Observations: After learning about this module I also learn and get to know more about what is typography because this whole time many of us just using type without knowing the history of maybe realizing the details of it. I can see that after learning and reading different typography books, I have learned to respect and appreciate the art of designing a typeface or even using typography in my designs. I believe that the way you align the fonts is what you want people to see fırst, and doing it wrong means also you won't deliver the idea. As a conclusion, everything matters, every single details needs to be studied, and when you learn how to do it and when to do it, you will see the difference.
Findings: Typography is not just about fonts and letters, it will show how much effort you put into a work. No matter how perfect the design idea is, if we do not execute it carefully and in detailed, it will not work out well. I found that being organized and being diligent is required for this module. In order to be on top of all of the assignments and e-portfolio updates, I have learnt to diligently document my work process and the feedback given by lecturers . I realize that we need those feedback for our self-growing and always remember that if we afraid then we won't improve.
